FAQ >

-What's the deal here?

I make stuff- arty stuff.

-Where are you?
I'm originally from Chicago, but relocated to San Francisco in Fall 2005.

-Do you have a manifesto?
Strange that you ask, oddly enough, I do...

The steps should be visible.
[The viewer should be able to see how each step built on another.]

A slick looking finish does not interest me as much as it once did.
[Slick surfaced illustration and painterly messiness can be harmonious.]

I make art on found surfaces- I like to re-use.
[Deconstruct an object, an advertisement, an image and re-create it.]

An imperfect / weathered / marred surface is a great thing.
[Don't allow it to be 'junk' any longer.]

I will paint it up and then scratch it away.
[It's not an Art object with a capital A.]

I like to fight with the surface.
[The surface and I will be friends in the end, so it's ok.]

Add some text.
[words words words.]

I prefer muted and/or dark colors.
[That would look better mixed with some grey.]

-What got you into arting?
I was one of those kids that always drew. Later in my skateboarding days, I admired slick, glossy illustration that left not a hint of process. I also appreciated punk rock flyers and zines and posters made in the “cut and paste” style. I tried to emulate both ways working, even though the two styles might seem at odds. I was also interested in graffiti, but admittedly, wasn’t very good at it. Sometime later I went to school to learn more about art.

In recent years: I’ve had a long running interest in deconstruction and people [no matter what medium I happen to be working with].

-Who are some artists you'd say were an influence?
That's a long, long list, so here are eight: Caravaggio, Arthur Rackham, Gil Elvgren, Norman Rockwell, Kerry James Marshall, Donato Giancola, Larry Elmore, Banksy.

-OK, but what about artists working now?
Did you look at my links page?

-Can I buy your art? How?
Absolutely. I'm all about my art going somewhere that it hasn't been before.

Look through the For Sale gallery up top for all the art that's currently available. The price is in the description- click the $ under the description to buy.

-Can I trade you for a piece of art?
Maybe, email me to let me know what you've got in mind.

-Do you do commissioned / custom work?
Same as above.

-Have you displayed your art before?
Mmmhmm. The artiness has been displayed in various venues, exhibitions, festivals and galleries in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. You can click on the CV / Shows link up top if you'd like to see a list.

I’m always looking for new places to display my art and always looking to become involved with new and interesting events / projects. Hit me up if you're looking for someone to round out a show or whatnot.
